PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Accounting Clerk program prepares students for entry-level accounting position. Some advancement is possible with this background, but students may wish to acquire additional trinaing in accounting to allow broader advancement opportunites. Prerequisite: demonstrated proficiency in math, reading, and English.

PROGRAM GOALS:
Students who successfully complete this program should be able to:
  • Do basic bookkeeping and accounting tasks both manually and on the computer.
  • Show familiarity with basic economic concepts.
  • Demonstrate the relationships of the various business functions such as accounting, marketing, human resources, purchasing, and operations.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with elements of law related to business.
  • Do basic mathematical calculations related to business such as markups and markdowns, gross payroll and payroll deductions, insurance premiums, and property taxes.
  • Demonstrate proficiency on the computer keyboard and ten-key calculator.
  • Prepare written business communications.
  • Use a spreadsheet program such as Excel.
  • Use the Windows operating system.
  • Deliver an oral presentation.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
Entry level accounting positions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll clerk, accounting data entry, invoicing, and cashier.

An awareness of the values, beliefs, customs, and contributions of persons from one’s own and other traditions, ethnicities, classes, and genders.

The ability to adapt to change, such as technological innovations or environmental conditions.
Responsibility:
The ability to be accountable to self, society, and the natural world.
