PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Provides students with training in object oriented languages and multimedia programming and the hardware and software skills necessary to compete for entry-level employment in the computer programming industry. Students should work closely with their advisor when selecting electives to assure their education goals are met.

EMPLOYMENT OPTIONS:
Programmers are employed in most industries, but the largest concentrations are in data processing service organizations, including firms that write and sell software; firms that provide engineering and management services; manufacturers of computer and office equipment; financial institutions, insurance carriers; educational institutions; and government agencies. Applications programmers work for all types of firms, whereas systems programmers usually work for organizations with large computer centers or for firms that manufacturers or develop software.

Although the ATA degree is not intended as a transfer degree, some articulation agreements are in place. Please see your advisor about transfer opportunities.

LEARNING THEMES:
General education outcomes at Centralia College help students, faculty, and the general public identify exactly what learning is expected when a student has completed a degree or program. The ability to extract information from data, develop ideas and solutions, establish logical progression in thinking, and problem solve using such procedures as literary analysis or the scientific methods.

The ability to make oneself understood in public, interpersonal, professional, artistic, and technical arenas.

An awareness of the values, beliefs, customs, and contributions of persons from one’s own and other traditions, ethnicities, classes, and genders.
Resourcefulness:
The ability to adapt to change, such as technological innovations or environmental conditions.
Responsibility:
The ability to be accountable to self, society, and the natural world.
